Hello Bio first to launch water-soluble Clozapine – an antipsychotic & DREADD ligand

Hello Bio announced today the launch of Clozapine dihydrochloride - a water-soluble form of clozapine and a valuable new tool for neuroscientists.

Clozapine has been used by researchers for some years - it is an atypical antipsychotic that binds to both serotonin and dopamine receptors in the brain. It is also of interest to DREADDs researchers – the DREADD ligand CNO is metabolised to clozapine, and recent reports suggest that clozapine itself may have high affinity and potency for DREADDs. However, until recently, it has only been commercially available in a form that is sparingly water-soluble – and researchers have had to use DMSO or ethanol to solubilise it. The use of these solvents in biological systems has many disadvantages.

Hello Bio has now manufactured the dihydrochloride salt of clozapine and this is readily soluble in water (to a concentration of 100 mM). This enables researchers to use water as their solvent, instead of the often less desirable solvents DMSO and ethanol .

Clozapine has long been available to researchers in a form that is only sparingly soluble in water. Our Clozapine dihydrochloride is water-soluble – making it a much more flexible tool for in vitro and in vivo researchers. And of course, in keeping with our ethos – it is offered at a very low price.

Clozapine dihydrochloride joins a range of affordable and high quality tools for GPCR research, including DREADD ligands Clozapine N-oxide (water soluble) and Compound 21 hydrochloride (water-soluble), and the novel GRK2/3 inhibitor Cmpd101, that can be used to study GPCR desensitisation.
