Novel mGlu8-selective antagonist MDCPG launched by Hello Bio
Hello Bio announced today the launch of a novel mGlu8 selective antagonist MDCPG – to help scientists investigate epilepsy, anxiety and Alzheimer’s Disease.
mGlu8 is a Group III glutamate receptor that has been implicated in a number of conditions such as epilepsy and anxiety. However, to date, there have been no commercially available mGlu8 selective antagonists and this has hampered research into this receptor and its function. A paper published in the journal Neuropharmacology by Dr Zuner Bortolotto and his colleagues at the MRC Centre for Synaptic Plasticity at Bristol University describes the mGlu8 selective actions of MDCPG . This chemical tool was shown to antagonise the effects of mGlu8-selective DCPG concentrations in a neuronal assay. Hello Bio announced today that this exciting new tool is the latest additioin to their glutamate receptor tools range.
“We are proud to be the first life science company to bring this novel mGlu8 selective antagonist to researchers. Together with the other Group III glutamate receptor tools that we offer, such as (R,S)-PPG and (S)-3,4-DCPG , we are providing a great range of tools to modulate mGlu4, mGlu6, mglu7 and mGlu8 receptors”.
Steve Roome, co-founder and Managing Director of Hello Bio
“Hello Bio offers a full range of glutamate receptor tools – from standards such as D-AP5 and L-AP4 , to novel tools such as MDCPG, we are offering life scientists a comprehensive range to help them investigate the role of glutamate in many neurological conditions.”

Agonists, antagonists, antibodies, fluorescent tools…but Hello Bio is more than a catalogue of life science tools. We are a team of researchers and scientists, who genuinely want to support and promote life science research. Everything we do has this at its heart – we strive to make our range as affordable as possible, we listen to what you want, and we contribute financially where we can, to travel awards, grants and bursaries. Not forgetting - we insist on the best quality possible: for products, for service and for technical support.
Trusted and affordable results- whilst supporting science – what could be better?
